Tai chi and qigong are complementary traditional Chinese arts that help to improve one’s health, vitality, and wellbeing. Tai chi is a series of gentle flowing movements based on martial arts. Qigong is a mind/body exercise that helps stimulate “elemental life force.”
YANG STYLE TAI CHI & BAO JIAN GONG QIGONG
Tuesday classes at CCAC focus on learning the basic movements of traditional Yang tai chi through relatively simple and accessible short forms including the 8 step, 10 step, and 8 methods/5 steps.
This winter term we will learn the Beijing 10 step. We will also begin to learn a beautiful qigong form called daoyin bao jian gong. Both can be performed standing or seated. In addition we will explore some of the philosophy and basic principles behind these arts.
Tuesdays from 9:30 - 10:45 am
INTRODUCTION TO SUN STYLE TAI CHI & STANDING POLE QIGONG
Friday winter classes through OLLI introduce the basic form of Sun style tai chi and Xingyi “Standing Pole” qigong. Sun style tai chi uses a higher stance and smaller movements, making it more comfortable and safer for older adults. We’ll also explore some of the philosophy and basic principles behind these arts.
